Official Bio
Stephen Chukumba is an activist, advocate, and ally, working actively to support and raise awareness about the myriad issues impacting LGBTQ+ people and communities. He is the founder and Executive Director of The Dads Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting fathers of transgender and nonbinary children through storytelling, community-building, and advocacy.
Stephen is also the executive producer of The Dads, a feature-length follow-up to the Emmy Award-winning Netflix short of the same name, and co-host of the Parent Advocate podcast, where he amplifies the voices of trans youth and their families while challenging disinformation and advancing equity through compassionate dialogue.

The father of four children, one who identifies as transgender, Stephen is a member of the Human Rights Campaign’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council, Garden State Equality, and PFLAG. He frequently speaks on issues of race, gender, and intersectionality, and is active on social media, where he shares his journey parenting a trans child and advocates for trans rights. He coined the expression P.A.R.T.Y. People to describe parents (and people) advocating for respect for transgender youth and travels the country raising awareness about the importance of trans equality.

Stephen is also executive producer of Black Market Green: The Whitewashing of the Marijuana Industry, a feature-length documentary about the fight for inclusion of Black people in New York State’s emerging cannabis market, produced with filmmaker Ukachi Arinzeh. He was featured in The Dads, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, in March 2023 and was directed by award-winning filmmaker Luchina Fisher.
